About Belle

Belle Zars, authorBelle Zars is a writer and historian based in Colorado. A native of the northwest corner, her recent projects have charted the history of the Ute and homesteaders in an area of Routt County, Elkhead. Belle holds a doctorate in education, and has worked across the country on initiatives and innovations for rural students and placed-based learning in schools. Belle has held leadership positions at the Annenberg Foundation, Americore, the Extension Service, and taught at several universities and schools throughout her career. She has written for news publications such as the Texas Observer, and has participated in the Iowa Writers Workshop. She is a graduate of Williams College, the Bank Street College of Education, and Harvard University. She has three daughters. Contact Bell.
